Book # 32

If there is one book cover I would love to flaunt from my collection of 2016  released books – it has to be of ‘Rightfully Wrong Wrongfully Right’. ‘Do not judge a book by its cover’- goes a saying, however this might not hold true when it comes to RWWR.The story inside is as good as the book cover and here is my review for the same :

Characterisation and Plot

The book is as interesting as the blurb and the cover that lays down the pieces of the puzzle(story) very neatly to the readers. I understood that the characters of this book are an extension of the previous two books of Varsha (which I Am yet to read). But honestly, I do not regret not reading the previous books as I am completely enamoured by the character of ‘Gayatri’ in this book. She literally comes out of her comfort zone to change into a Protagonist shedding her shades of grey (This is what I could interpret of her character from extracts of the previous books)

‘Life begins at the end of your comfort zone” and this holds true when it comes to the characters. Be it Viraj or Gayatri, they try to come out of their shell to embrace the practical world and funnily, end up helping each other to do this. Gayatri’s equation with Nikhil is admirable and I loved the friendship between Sneha and Nandini and their bubbly characterisation.Reminded me of my relationship with a couple of close friends.We love harmless gossiping ,don’t we all? So, do indulge in some smiles while reading the scenes of these gossip sessions across the pages.

Though Gayatri comes out as a tough person while handling the anti-social elements, she has her personal weaknesses to which she is vulnerable. I guess, this is where the character of Gayatri changes in the eyes of the reader and the writer in Varsha succeeds because she does not make Gayatri’s character change a new leaf overnight due to the influence of Viraj like any other Romantic story.Instead, she builds Viraj’s character in such a way that he is the one who sees Gayatri as a brave fighter as well as a helpless person like himself who requires ‘Help’ to admonish personal demons! And this vulnerability is what makes their hearts vulnerable(I shall not be a spoilsport here by revealing much)

Bitter Sweet Pondering

I would have loved to read a little more of Viraj. He is described as a scientist but nothing much is added to his otherwise illustrious profile.There could have been few more pages dedicated to his body of work and his discoveries to justify his characterisation. Also, I really do not understand the glorification of ‘Alcholic drinks’ in the latest books that are being dished out including RWWR. I cannot still connect ‘Freedom’ with ‘Alcohol’ !

Theme

I loved the social messages on domestic violence , woman’s empowerment and independence, social responsibility that the writer wants to convey very subtly through the characters and the plot. Also, I liked the way Gayatri reveals her identity on media for rescuing her dooming business by being very practical. Because, sadly in today’s business environment ‘Any publicity is good publicity’ and this step emphasises that she is here to stay and succeed and has come out of the shadows of others!

Language and Literary Devices

The language used is very lucid and one which sounds more conversational.The narration is aptly supported by good humour that takes the story forward. Some of the metaphors, similes used and the names of the Chapters are weird and at the same time hilarious. Monkeys and Manuals , Asswipes and Pimp I am – are some of the Chapter names that stand out…

“In her head a GIF kept playing on loop- a GIF of her dropping a piano on Nikhil’s head”

“He picked up on her discomfort like an airport tower tracking an incoming plane”

Final Take

RWWR is a romantic light read with strong social messages and dollops of humour and in the end ‘Rightfully Right’ 🙂
